Politics is complicated and emotional. We asked Kevin to come on and help us break down critical parts of the party platforms in light of the Christian worldview.
Disclaimer: As a 501c3, The Center for Biblical Unity (CFBU) does not support any particular candidate or party. Any opinions expressed are simply our own.
Important Points to Remember:
Politics is downstream from our theology as Christians; we are not voting for a messiah and our politics cannot save us!
Being a Conservative is not the same thing as being a Christian.
Christians are often told, “you can’t legislate morality” but this is FALSE! Someone’s worldview/morality is always informing a particular view/stance; there is no neutral ground!
What has God Designed the Government to do (according to the Bible)?
Bring justice against those who do wrong (Romans 13:1-4); in other words, protect the innocent and punish the guilty
Defend its people (via armies, military, borders)
Ensuring that justice and fairness is done throughout society, whether it be related to murder or fraud, etc
God appears to be favorable toward nations, rather than empires; 1 Samuel:8 is a good warning of what happens when too much power lies in the hands of one person
People have relinquished their individual responsibility to care for their neighbor (the poor, family members, etc) and have bought into the notion that the government needs to provide for them instead (ie “tax the rich and give to the poor”)
Democratic National Convention (DNC) Platform:
Operating assumption: The government will help you live a good, middle class life (eg national health insurance, college tuition payments, etc)
Need to be careful when calling something a “right”
With the government involved in the insurance business, it drives up the cost of healthcare, which hurts the working poor the hardest. See a recent show we did on inflation with Professor Jeffery Degner: https://www.youtube.com/live/dFoopMRCias?si=QhrJk6Yw3pglRySG
Krista’s Golden Rule of Money: “He who has the gold, makes the rules.”
We must think critically about involvement in entitlement programs: What are the unintended consequences? What impact does this have on people’s souls when we remove their agency to provide for themselves?
Republican National Convention (RNC) Platform:
Many of the same issues mentioned by the DNC, such as housing affordability, accessible higher education, affordable healthcare, lower everyday costs, etc
Remember, housing prices are not going to go down; cutting the rate of inflation is not the same as cutting prices
“Peace through Strength” is something that needs to be done; it is necessary to continue to build a strong military in order to project the image of strength and respect; just “being nice” or staying uninvolved/isolationist will not work to keep peace
Noticeably missing: Biblical definition of marriage and sexuality and full protection for the unborn
Does it matter how a Christian votes?
Remember: Politics is downstream of culture and culture is downstream of worldview
It’s important to think critically about the worldview that is driving the Democratic Party and their policies, such as Critical Race Theory (CRT), Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Queer Theory, Gender Theory, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Comprehensive Sexuality Education, and more; these ideologies are very dangerous and counter to a Biblical worldview
